The city, Dera Ismail Khan is just west of the Indus River. The old town, 4 miles (6 km) east, was washed away by the Indus River in 1823. The new town, laid out by Durrani chiefs, was constituted a municipality in 1867.
VEER development organization was established in 1999 under Social Welfare Act & working in dera ismail khan since 1999. Initially the organization was registered in the name of “Social Welfare Society Gandi Umer Khan”. Later on in year 2002 the organization was renamed as “VEER” whereas VEER stands for Voice for Education and Equal Rights”. It is pronounced as “VEER Development Organization”.
